Now in its Tenth Edition, Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology continues to set the standard for short-course A&P texts. Its dramatically updated art program, more streamlined presentation of material, and integration of chapter objectives will help you better visualize and understand the structure and function of the human body. Elaine Marieb’s clear and friendly writing style emphasizes the relevance of anatomy & physiology to your life and future career. The book clarifies concepts, defines key terms, and offers just the right balance of anatomy, physiology, and clinical coverage to make the content complete without being overwhelming.
Elaine Marieb wrote this book specifically for the one-semester course and continues to carefully select a range of material that proves just right for the shorter course. New information on hot topics like the HPV Vaccine, Infantile Polycystic Kidney disease, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) draws students into the material.

If you are looking for the copy with the CD-ROM MAKE SURE it says CD_ROM in the description. I bought this under the assumption since it was a "new" book that the CD-ROM would come with it. Found out I was wrong. So now I have to spend more money to get the CD-ROM which is about $35. The book it's self is a pretty good book. Just don't get the wrong item.
Anatomy even a 60 year old can understand

This is required reading for a class I'm taking. The content is well organized. Language is friendly. Easy-to-understand illustrations and tables. Helpful self-tests and summaries are included with each chapter. The companion online module, Mastering A&P, is fantastic. There are a lot of planned redundancies between all the study aids, which I really appreciate; they help me identify what's most important.
Not another BORING A&P book

LOTS of pictures with insight and instead of what's connected to what, what chemical reactions cause what.... talks about environmental influence and some critical thinking !!! genetics was left out but probably the point... better interactive on the web at various universities .... good luck with your course !
I was unable to use the CD.

This text is written at a graspable level; however, I much prefer more in-depth information. I may or may not keep it after my course is over. It was expensive!
Well written--technology portion is lame

Good book. Very good book. However, the CD-ROM is bad for anybody using Macbook pro with OSX Lion. The interactive quizzes are just frozen pictures for me. I can't get the disc to work so the extra bucks to buy this instead of a used version wasn't worth it.

Very easy to understand, great explanations and pictures. The E version is great, I have it on my Kindle Fire. Would highly recommend this book!

Thanks for a great copy of the Marieb HA book. The quality of the book was even better than your description!
Good book for Basic A&P
By Eduardo on Jul 29, 2011
I got an A for the course.. I think I ended up with a 94-96. I did study hard and once you study hard and learn.. you'll understand the overall aspect of our system, hence, how they function, the importance parts, etc. I can now picture everything I learned on how our system works, the big picture basically. I did forgot lots of vocabulary.. but that doesn't matter. Like my teacher said.. you don't need to learn EVERYTHING.. so relax because this book has lots of vocabulary. :) good luck! I had to watch some videos on YouTube to enrich my understanding. Also, learning all this will flourish you. PS: This will be prepare you for A&P 1-2! My teacher said that it will be a little "harder" >_>;; A little? ha ha.. we'll see, really hope so.

This is a very good textbook. The author gives a lot of detail and and makes each section easy to follow. Haven't really viewed the CD-rom, but if it is anything like the book, I sure it is just as excellent. This book made the class easier.
Not what I wanted.

I ordered and paid for a hardback book and got a softback instead. Not sure yet if I will get my refund or not. I am returning the book. But I should not have to pay to return it. It was not my mistake.
Great Anatomy and Physiology Textbook!
By Hannah on Apr 23, 2014
This book gives a great overview of human anatomy and physiology for people who do not need it as a detailed course. It provides informative photographs, description over complicated topics, and questions that you can answer at the end of a section to be sure you are understanding the reading. In addition, there are multiple sections in each chapter that are titled "Homeostatic Imbalance." These sections explain different illnesses that affect the homeostasis (the body's ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions even though the outside world in continuously changing - page 12) of the body. Every few chapters, there is a page that focuses on a career that corresponds to the specific system that is covered in that chapter. For example, Chapter 13, which covers the Respiratory System, the career that is discussed is the job of a respiratory therapist. It is very helpful to be able to read through these, since it gives you a better idea to what that career entails. There is also a section called "A Closer Look," which discusses a specific illness of that system more thoroughly than it does in the actual text, different ways of scanning the body with CAT Scans, MRI's, etc. and much more. In Chapter 13, the illness that is explained is asthma. There is also a section at the end of each chapter that explains the how that specific system develops as the baby is growing. I have found that very interesting, since I have learned lots of new things about when specific systems form as the baby grows. For my course, we did not have to answer the review questions or do the critical thinking and clinical application questions, since we have a different tests we take that go over the chapter, so I do not know how much time it would take to answer them, etc. I have enjoyed reading this textbook this past semester. Some of the chapter can be somewhat lengthy, but I just have to remember that it means that the system being discussed is just more complicated. Overall, it is a great textbook. I would definitely recommend this book if I ever hear of someone who needs a book like this one.
