Product Description

A compelling, important addition to Hill Harper’s bestselling series, inspired by the numerous young inmates who write to him seeking guidance
After the publication of the bestselling Letters to a Young Brother, accomplished actor and speaker Hill Harper began to receive an increasing number of moving letters from inmates who yearned for a connection with a successful role model. With disturbing statistics on African-American incarceration on his mind (one in six black men were incarcerated as of 2001, and one in three can now expect to go to prison some time in their lifetimes), Harper set out to address the specific needs of inmates.
A powerful message from the heart, Letters to an Incarcerated Brother provides advice and inspiration in the face of despair along with encouraging words for restoring a sense of self-worth. As the founder of Manifest Your Destiny, a nonprofit outreach program for at-risk teens, Harper has seen firsthand the transformative effect of mentorship and the power of a positive role model. This latest addition to Hill Harper’s Letters series delivers visionary, compassionate responses to the real-life circumstances of inmates. As with the other Letters books, Harper includes moving contributions from top educators, activists, thought leaders, and entertainers. Uplifting and insightful, Letters to an Incarcerated Brother provides the hope and inspiration inmates and their families need.

Customer Book Reviews

I really like the book. It could help many brothers in our prison. I wish more people would reach out to our brother, sons, and friends in prison. People tend to have an out of sight out of mind to people who are in jail and forget about them. Hill is a very nice and passionate person I had to chance to see him in person. I believe if more people would get this book to people in prison we wouldn't have as many people returning to prison.

very good book

i really dug where he went with this book and how he broke the lingo down on the inside and how he responded. i happen to walk by this book recently and had to check it out and really enjoyed it, though its a very serious read and journey. one of those books that i would recommend.

book not available to the incarcerated

Why would publisher put this out only in hard-copy when prisoners are not allowed to have hard-cover books? Incarcerated will have to wait until it comes out in paperback.

The Best Yet

I don't have the words to express my appreciation for what Hill Harper does in this book. Not only can it be a lifeline for a person who is incarcerated, but it can provide guidance to any young person who is looking for order and meaning in his life.

A Myst Read

The book hits home. It's encouraging and very informative. As a parent whose son is in jail, I gained a new knowledge of the system.

I read this book with my dear friend who is incarcerated for 27-33 years. Hills words are a motivation to keep him moving forward. I enjoyed this book a great deal I'm so happy I got to read it with him .

Thank you, Hill Harper, for a memorable book -LETTERS TO AN INCARCERATED BROTHER

the message sent by Hill Harper is engaging and positive. I found that the organization of "things to do" was helpful for even those who are not incarcerated - planning resumes, schedules of goals, budgets, etc. As the message in your review says, it is a book of encouragement, hope and healing and I found it to be a book to be cherished.

So a huge fan of Hill Harper and Amazon

Huge fan of Hill and own all of his books. Very inspirational man and I appreciate him writing this book for those who not only are living in prison but also for those who are living in a mental prison. Thank you Hill and Amazon for this great book.
