A Market Leading, Traditional Approach to Organic Chemistry
Throughout all eight editions, Organic Chemistry has been designed to meet the needs of the "mainstream," two-semester, undergraduate organic chemistry course. This best-selling text gives students a solid understanding of organic chemistry by stressing how fundamental reaction mechanisms function and reactions occur.
Organic is rough, but this book is fantastic
By O. Lozneanu on Mar 21, 2012
An annoying feature of the book is the way they make you buy the answer book to compliment the book itself. I can understand space is an issue, but that answer book is highly priced itself. Other than that pet peeve this book is fantastic. Nearing the end of my second semester of organic chemistry this book has done its part. Read the book, and you'll do fine. You cannot go wrong by simply reading this book alone and ignoring the teacher since this book covers much more than the teacher can or will ever go over. It's not like you will have much of a choice in the book you want anyways, since most teachers don't give you that freedom, but don't be intimidated by this book since it does its job well.
Item in excellent condition and priced well!

This book is just what I needed for my Organic Chemistry class. I am rather pleased with the author's writing style and the way the book is laid out. It is already helping me understand concepts that I was missing out on due to my lack of a textbook. Out of everywhere I looked, this was the best deal for buying this book. The international edition textbooks were even more expensive than this one that I purchased. Shipping was a little slow, but well worth it. I am very satisfied!
One small problem...
By Amber Draper on Sep 09, 2010
Reading through the book, it is very well written and the instructions are clear. However, most textbooks have the answer (not the whole solution, just the answer) to either the odd or even questions in the back. This textbook does not. I'm not happy to have to dish out another $110 to buy the solutions manual!
Lots of information, very rigid and poor explanation
By Laura on May 30, 2013
In a topic such as Organic Chemistry it is absolutely essential that concepts and topics are clarified with utmost attention toward even the smallest details. Granted, I recognize that this course in general is difficult. However, the author jumps to conclusions and assumes comprehension much too often. You will repeatedly encounter phrases such as "it is assumed" and it presents the material in an extremely rigid, difficult to read manner. It fills you in with all the little details but often fails to show the overall structure, or big-picture of what you need to connect the concepts. If you are a poor soul who is stuck with this textbook (most likely because the author teaches at your school *cough* *Villanova* *cough*), I highly recommend you purchase supplemental materials (Organic Chemistry as a Second Language is superb).
It is a great book, but get the solutions manual
By Aaron on Oct 30, 2012
Okay I am in organic 1 right now and the solutions manual and this book have made me the best student with the highest test scores in my 350 person class. It takes a long time and patience to understand this subject and I am no genius. I spend hours and hours on organic to complete and check all the answers in the back of each chapter. The questions at the back progressively get harder and there are lots of questions. If you do all the questions (which takes hours like I do) then you will make a B or better in the class.
Great for an e-Textbook
By Donna Pedersen on Aug 21, 2012
One of the better layouts I have seen with an e-Textbook. Very easy to find content through the table of contents. Very Highly Recommended. As mentioned, the answers are NOT in the back of the book like in the printed version, but you probably need to get the solutions manual anyway.
Could be better.

I really wish the cheapskates at the publisher's office would include the answer booklet with this textbook. You know, so us little people without tutors could get some self-study.
Great graphic text interaction
By Julius Walker on Sep 04, 2013
I like this book because the text refers to the graphics not as a random example of whatever is being taught but actually mentions specific aspects about the graphic, teaching the reader how to analyze similar graphics in the future.
Came in early, product exactly as described by seller!
By Amy on Jun 21, 2014
Came in earlier than expected and was exactly as described by the seller. No highlighting just some underlines with pencil (not distracting at all) and the cover is in pretty good condition as well. I recommend this seller to anyone who is looking to buy cheaper used books, this book was handled well by the previous owner.

It's a good org book to learn from, easy to understand, etc. I think I have seen better chemistry books that explain in a more understandable way, but overall I'm happy with my purchase
