Synopsis
If Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, the wild, wide-eyed wanderers of Jack Kerouac's landmark 1957 novel ON THE ROAD, had never ended their restless treks across the country, today their traveling spirit would inevitably have been dampened by the ravages of age--arthritis, incontinence, and temporary amnesia. Meet John and Ella Robina--Ella has cancer; John has Alzheimer's. This pair of self-professed "geezers" escapes from their adult children in Detroit and sets out in their massive RV for one last great adventure to Disneyland. Despite their age and their illness, it is obvious that they remain young at heart, as they banter and ramble their way across America, hitting every random roadside attraction along the way and turning every tourist trap into a shining, sentimental reminder of the possible joys and sorrows of mortal life. As John slips further into dementia, the ailing Ella is forced to decide the appropriate punctuation to finalize the journey and the couple's long, abbreviated life together.

Industry Reviews
"[Zadoorian's] wise, feisty voice turns what could be a sappy melodrama into an authentic and funny love story."
(10/27/2008)
"THE LEISURE SEEKER is pretty much like life itself: joyous, painful, funny, moving, tragic, mysterious, and not to be missed." (starred review)
(12/15/2008)
"Zadoorian is true to these geezers. He draws them in their most honest light, with hair loss, old people smell from bodies gone awry, and that constant conflict of tiredness and sleeplessness at the wrong times...I hoped for a book that would make me laugh during these tight times, and I was rewarded."
