Our original plan for this edition was just to add a chapter on probability, to make some of the more difficult sections less abstract, and to revise the treatment of recursion and induction. When we got into the project, we saw that a massive reorganization could greatly increase the book's flexibility as a text as well as draw together topics that are closely related. The resulting major revision includes substantial new material as well as what we think are clearer accounts of topics in the second edition, all reordered to fit a wider range of courses than before.
