About This Book:

Title: Vanessa and Virginia

Synopsis
Susan Sellers presents a fictionalized depiction of a pair of singularly remarkable sisters, Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf. While Virginia is the more famous of the two, Vanessa was an accomplished artist in her own right, and the book is told from her point of view. As children, the girls are somewhat neglected by their family, and they come to share an almost obsessive intimacy as each other's only companion. When their mother and then their beloved older half-sister die, Vanessa is forced to take on the burden of managing life's obstacles while the fragile Virginia begins to withdraw. When Virginia finds her voice as a member of the Bloomsbury circle, Vanessa steams with jealousy, hindering her own budding career as a painter. This is a splendid piece of biographical fiction which demonstrates how the same events can steer two people down very different paths.
