Synopsis
Written by Neil Gaiman, the critically acclaimed author of the SANDMAN comic series and the novel AMERICAN GODS, MARVEL 1602 is just what its title says it is. It posits what would happen if Marvel's greatest heroes (the X-Men, Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and so on) existed in 1602. Although their positions in society may seem slightly unfamiliar to Marvel fans (Daredevil as a spy posing as a minstrel, Captain America as a Native American warrior, the Thing as a sea captain, etc.) their duty remains the same: to save the world from destruction. The full-color art has a more delicate, painterly feel than the usual splashy look of most Marvel books, giving the book the look of a great historical epic. This graphic novel collects all eight parts of the series, originally published as single-issue comics. Additionally, the book contains an afterword by Gaiman, the original script for the first issue, and pencil sketches of some of the key characters and scenes.
