About This Book:
Title: The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer
Synopsis
Part ghost story, part memoir, this book was written to supply the back-story to the television mini-series, ROSE RED, penned by Stephen King. The fictional diary chronicles the ongoing construction and goings on of a Seattle mansion--named Rose Red--built on a Native American burial ground early in the 20th century. The diarist, Ellen, has married oil tycoon, John Rimbauer, a philandering and cold man who believes none of his wife's comments that strange things are happening in Rose Red. Explanatory notes written by the supposed editor and professor of paranormal studies, Joyce Reardon, accompany the diary entries.

Mind you i dont have a problem with how it was written
though I have to admit I was disappointed the movie didnt follow the book. What
I am irritated about is it offers up excerpts for the diary on the site for
"bueamont university" but not the ones mentioned in the book... I was
kind of curious as to what exactly it was that happened during the time between
Sukeena, Ellen and John... call me strange but if you promise the reader
something like that is available on the web then follow through with it. Shame
on Stephan King for not following up. If he didn't want to write those entries
then Ellen should have merely mentioned it happened and moved on, rather then
making the reader think they could find out more about it and then it isn't
there. Sigh... go figure.

This is the best book I have ever read! I can never stay
into a book as long as I did this one. I am glad it is not at all like the
movie. This way it provides historical background to better understand Rose Red.
I seriously could not put this down. The only thing is that Ellen did seem to
ramble a bit, but it made me feel a sort of understanding, in that I too can
ramble....
Anyway, if you're in the least bit interested in the
supernatural and the paranormal, you will totally dig this book. You'll be left
wanting more.

I read this book thouroughly I have it memorized but I do
wish that the book did follow along with the movie. I also feel that there
should be more to it. I myself keep an account of my life and this story seems
almost as though it is real. I have and will continue to recommend it to others.
This book is one of the best I have ever read and I spend the majority of my
time renting and buying books.
Wish it was written better, October 14, 2002

Even though I knew it was ficton before buying the book, I
found it to be wriiten too much in "story telling" form. The details
that Ellen puts into her pages are done to the extreme. The conversations are
too extensive. The details she gives are exaggerated and far too detailed.
The use of the same expressions got to me also. Everything
was refered to as "my dear this" and "my dear that". Even
when she was so angry that she wanted to kill herself she still refers to her
diary as "my dear diary".
It could have been covered in less then the six tapes it was
recorded on. I also wish that the diary would have stayed on the same story the
movie did. Some of the things at the end of the book were different then the
movie.
Industry Reviews
"A small gem has been crafted here, primarily due to the author's apparent familiarity with a woman's innermost thoughts, as well as writing a tale relating century-old mores."
