This book is a grand visual spectacle enhanced by a large-scale format. Posters by Alexei Gan, Eduard Drobitsky, Nikolai Prusakov, and many others introduce a wide variety of design styles used to publicize the arts. Many of these posters are reproduced for the first time. A brief introductory essay outlines the history behind the making of these posters, linking them with major political and artistic influences. The many full-page color illustrations are the high point of this book, while the brief text and lack of a bibliography are definite drawbacks. Brief biographies of the poster designers are included, but they provide little useful information.
