Review
This is the bizarre and entertaining tale of 13-year-old Milo Kick. Milo's mother has noticed a bad change in Milo's behaviour following his association with an unsavoury and notoriously naughty boy named Mojo. What his mother does not know, however, is that Milo has been experiencing strange headaches - fizzy wasps - whenever he gets annoyed or is asked to talk about Mojo. So Milo is sent to stay with his mum's friend, the almost whale-like Cressida Bell, and her fact-obsessed companion Dee Dee Six at their home, a remote guest house called Avalon Rise at Land's End, Cornwall. Initially Milo is as bored as any teenager denied a TV, DVD player or Playstation, but his interest is aroused by the sight of a strange, wild man shouting at the sea. The man fascinates Milo and Cressida explains that he is Captain Jellicoe, a man on a mission to destroy a fabled monster. Intrigued, Milo becomes embroiled in the Captain's quest and discovers that the Captain thinks that he, Milo, is the Promised One who will help him to track and kill the monster. The hunt is on! This is a wonderfully engaging children's novel. Following Ridley's recent work in schools and youth groups, often with so-called 'problem' children, he was inspired to write this story to show the reader just how much stories can teach us about ourselves and our place in the world. The short snappy chapters with subsections are good for encouraging children to read on and gain confidence in their reading achievements. It is littered with strange yet alluring pencil illustrations that bring the remarkable characters to life. The surreal plot, humour and teenage slang make this an accessible and absorbing read for even the most reluctant reader. (Kirkus UK)

Product Description
Milo Kick is no longer Mum's little 'angel'. Five months ago something happened - something only Milo knows - that changed him into a 'monster'. Unable to cope, Mum sends him to stay with Cressida Bell, an old family friend, who lives by the sea. Gradually, Milo becomes obsessed with stories about wild Captain Jellicoe who lives in a nearby cave and who, in turn, has his own story to tell. It is a story that will change Milo's life forever. It is the story of Mighty Fizz Chilla.
