Taken from "Martha Stewart, Founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia" Martha decided to use her talent for cooking and opened a catering business in 1976. For ten years, from the basement of her home, she cooked meals for people who were having large parties. The business grew into a million dollar a year operation. During this period, Martha was also busy as a writer. She wrote articles on food and entertaining for The New York Times and edited and wrote columns for House Beautiful magazine. In 1982, Martha decided to write a book on how to entertain guests at parties and other social events. She co-authored a book called Entertaining. The book was filled with many color photos. It was a huge success, selling more than a million copies and making Martha famous.
